Quality housing for all.
A roof over our heads is such a fundamental requirement that recently the Government has launched an initiative to help councils and housing associations provide it. Dubbed the “Decent Homes” programme, Government directives are that “In order to be decent, a home should be warm, weatherproof and have reasonably modern facilities”.
Vanderbilt takes this concept further. In our view, it means attainable accommodation that is just as desirable as private. Our Littlemore development is a case in point. Comprising a mix of 20 houses and one apartment, it is being developed in conjunction with SOHA on a brownfield site in an area desperately short of affordable housing.
The site centres predominantly around a peaceful cul-de-sac. Externally, the properties reflect the attractive Oxfordshire village vernacular of charming bay windows with steeply pitched roofs and character chimney stacks.
The clever layout makes the most efficient use of the space available, allowing for personal space and privacy yet promoting a sense of community. Some properties are ideal for family life, others for the single person – helping to create the diverse social mix that is needed to make affordable schemes successful and popular.
